The Major General has intimated to me the necessity of withdrawing the guard from the Naval Stores, and I therefore think it proper to acquaint you with the circumstance, that you may adopt such steps as you conceive necessary for their Security.

I have given you to understand that the Superintendent of Police has for some time supplied four Policemen paid for by the Storekeeper, to assist in the protection of the Naval Stores, and be with, should you desire it, be instructed to furnish as many more on the same terms as you may deem necessary, to supply the place of the Military Guard, during its temporary absence.

I think it proper to add that the withdrawal of the Military Guard is only of a temporary nature, rendered necessary by the alarming state of the Jurisdiction. I have to state that the Major General will be requested to replace it, when the health of the Troops will enable him to do so.
